Our Westie, Harry, loves his new bed so much, he looks forward to his sleep time.

My dog loves this bed. It was a little fluffy for him to break in so he would use it intermittently to begin with. Now he enjoys laying on it whenever he can. The quality and construction is excellent and though this dog was known to tear up beds in the past he hasn't even tried with this one. Maybe because it's more comfortable. We got the velvet because we thought it would be more comfortable and though it does make some noise when he is getting into it, it's not too bad. We ordered a lux bed that is orthopedic because he seems to like the other memory foam cushion to sleep on as well.

My pug would destroy every single bed that we bought him. You can see where he has been working on a corner and the bed has stayed in tact. It's a stylish bed that goes with my decor as well! My only regret is that I didn't buy a bigger bed!

I was a little skeptical about this bed because of the velvet material.I was unsure if it would hold up to my crazy dogs that love to dig, scratch and chew on everything.Even though they have attempted to destroy the bed they have not been able to do so.By now I think they have given up as this bed is holding up better than I expected.I was surprised a soft and comfortable bed could be this durable.
  • It was great at first but, definitely not chew proof Review by Patricia (Posted on 8/9/2016)

My husband and I thought that these beds we got are going to be the last ones for us to buy for our doggies.

Got the beds Jan 12, 2016 for our German Shepherd and Sheltie (smaller bed was for our sheltie and the big one is for our GS). However, within a span in the last 3-4 weeks, our German Shepherd was able to chew through both beds and we're disappointed thinking we spent $460.00 for these beds.

We're very unhappy and sad to say, we just wasted money...

We have 2 pit bulls who love to nestle and then "puff" up the bed with their paws. We were replacing beds every 9 months. This is the only bed we've found to handle that force. We bought a second for the bedroom and expect not to have to buy a replacement for years.
  • Durable but not comfy Review by Claus (Posted on 5/8/2016)
    Overall Quality
Unfortunately my dog does not use this bed. He is used to a West Paw bumper bed, and although these velvet beds are described as luxurious, they do not compare to cotton when it comes to softness. They make a plastic noise when he moves around and the fit between pillow and cover is not great (pillow does not completely fill cover). The return policy is not as generous as on Amazon, so I am stuck with the purchase and will probably donate it to my shelter. Also shipment was incomplete. This is only my experience and every dog is different, so everyone should try it themselves.

K9 Ballistics Response: If your order was incomplete, please let us know what was missing from it, as we want to make sure you get everything that you have paid for!

  • Great investment Review by ellen (Posted on 3/24/2016)

My spoiled Rottweiler Dakota was always jumping on the furniture at my parents house. I tried a couple different pads, but they would be shredded to bits within the day. I have the tuff orthopedic crate pads (and they have held up great despite my pups powerful nails), so I came back to k9 ballistics.
The velvet tuff is noticeably quieter than the original tuff cover material. My dog is obsessed with her new bed! The nesting material is perfect, it satisfies her nesting habits and provides a ton of padding. Dakota even tries to drag it around to be closer to the family. My mom loves the lattice pattern as well. To say the bed is worth the money is an understatement. You can't find better dog beds that are this durable and of such high quality.
  • Less than 3 hours to destroy Review by Alexandrea (Posted on 3/9/2016)
    Overall Quality
I was very excited to purchase this bed for my two Pitbull Mastiffs (currently 72 and 80 lbs) for their first birthday. When it arrived, I put it together and the girls seemed to love it. I thought 'Finally! A bed I don't have to worry about them destroying while we're not home!' Boy was I wrong. In the not quite 3 hours between me leaving the house and my husband returning from work, they had made a large hole in the corner and there was green stuffing surrounding my very guilty pups. Not a happy momma. This bed definitely did not live up to their 'chew proof' claim. I am extremely disappointed with this purchase and would caution any future buyers from trusting that you can leave your dog alone with this bed just because it's expensive and claimed to be able to handle a lot of abuse. Also: their FAQ section mentions that they got rid of the zippers, because they realized it was hazardous, not true even though this is their newest bed as it has 2 zippers NOT velcro to put the stuffing in. Overall, I am not thrilled to only get the 50% refund for a bed that my dogs can't even use since they might swallow the stuffing. I expected so much better from such a highly rated product!!
K9 Ballistics Response: Please note that we advise customers of the zippers in the Details, Durability, and FAQs tabs on this product's page. The zippers are also visible in our assembly video. The presence of the bolster pillow requires a zipper closure to keep it sealed shut. For a zipperless bed, please consider a TUFF Velvet Nesting Bed.

  • Really nice, but... Review by James (Posted on 2/29/2016)
    Overall Quality
We ordered a TUFF velvet bolster bed (I think)

In terms of the order itself, it came in a nice package - two boxes with everything clearly labeled. We ordered our pillow to be embroidered with our Frenchie's name ("Miloh") but the cover was embroidered "Nova." Reached back and a new order was sent to my house within a week! They said I could keep or donate the original Nova bed.

The product itself was reallllllllly nice! The pillows on the inside are so comfortable. The outside material is very durable! We could watch Miloh through a nanny cam when we were not at home and we could see him chewing on it and zero damage to the cover itself.

The problem we had with the bed was that Miloh was able to pull apart the teeth of the zipper (the teeth of the zipper wouldn't stay closed). So the material wouldnt break or rip but Miloh would still be able to pull the pillow out after breaking open the teeth. Huge plus though that the pillow itself was able to handle his chewing without tearing. We reached back out and got a replacement bed/cover. Again - the bed came relatively quickly, this time, the packaging was a little more shotty (box was ripped etc) and we were only given one of the two pillows necessary to put the bed together. So we just used the old pillows to fill it out so it wasnt a big deal.

We havent left him alone with the bed in fear that he will break it open again and we would have to deal with this warranty thing again.

Im giving the company a 4/5 stars mainly cause I think the zipper thing may be a fluke. The product is durable otherwise, the pillow is nicer than the pillow on my bed, and the customer service was awesome. I dont know if it were worth 180 dollars though.

    Thanks for reading!

  • Better than the others we've tried Review by Rick (Posted on 2/24/2016)
    Overall Quality
So far, we've been very happy with both Tuff Velvet Dog Beds we purchased from K-9 Ballistics. Our 10-month old pups are pretty aggressive chewers and the beds have held up far better than any beds we had tried previously from other retailers. While our "fur babies" were able to puncture through the cover in a couple of places within the first few days (just small holes), those initial tears have surprisingly remained small and haven't worsened despite daily use of the beds. We also had both beds embroidered with our puppies' names, and the stitching looks great and has also held up well. We really do appreciate the superior craftsmanship of this product - it was worth the money spent.

My 11 week (old and very chewy) Tibetan Terrier pup has embraced her new TUFF Velvet Bed. At first she tried to dig in it, but when she realized that wasn’t going to get her anywhere, she now just curls up and rests her head on the bolster. I have it in her crate. I wanted to make the crate more cozy for her, but still be safe, and that’s why I purchased. I was a little suspicious of the way the TUFF Velvet Bed came packaged, but once I but it together, I marvelled at the design. I did not notice any weird smell to the stuffing, but I did let it air out for a day before assembling.

I have one of your TUFF pads in bottom of Mila's crate as well. Both are holding up great and she has never tried to chew either product.

    Which is kinda a miracle.

It took us a long time to find just the right bed for our "senior" beagle hound mix. We adopted Dooby in 2001 when he was just 2. He is very much a senior dog and has some long time trouble with arthritis. He is winding down his years and your bed has proved to be the perfect place for a dog who's bones needed a safe comfortable place to rest. He lays with his head resting on the bumpers. The fabric is perfect and shows no signs of his long nesting process doing it any harm. He is not a dog who chews anything. However he does have a very lengthy process-he circles and scratches many many, MANY, times before he finally lies down. I say it is like he is digging a hole in the sand when he does this. Your bed is so soft yet so tough. The velvet surface is as soft and beautiful as it was when we first took it out of the box. I know it will survive all his turning and scratching for years to come.

I am able to move it so easily as needed- if I am working in my office upstairs or my son is playing video games in his room- we can bring the bed.
We have already noticed his front right leg is limping so much less than it was. Not having to jump up and this very comfortable place to rest and sleep has proved the perfect answer to all our needs for our beloved dog.

I love the look of the bed, which we got for our two dogs to share and play on. We have hard wood floors that are cold in the winter, so it is a perfect place for them to chew bones and roughhouse. Sadly, our dachshund made it through a corner of the bed this week, but it held up better than anything else I have purchased. He has not been able to get through the velvet area, but managed to chew the velvet off of a few spots.
  • Attractive, but gets dirty easily Review by Kathy B (Posted on 2/3/2016)
    Overall Quality
Charlie's bed is great! It's the only thing I've gotten for him in the year that I've had him that he hasn't eaten! He loves it; he won't even come in to sleep by my bed unless I bring his bed in there.

The only problem I have is that the velour "bed part" gets dirty easily. Charlie is an inside-outside dog, and so he's not always perfectly clean. I know the entire bed cover is washable, but I surely do dread having to re stuff it. It might not be feasible, but if the velour part were removable without undoing the whole bed, it would be great to be able to just throw that part in the wash.

The bed is so attractive that I don't mind having it in the great room of my brand new house. The personalization is a great touch.

I would recommend this bed to anyone--especially if they have a chewing dog! As a matter of fact, I will soon be ordering a second one for Charlie to use in my room.
  • It's a wonderful bed Review by Jean (Posted on 2/3/2016)

We have had the TUFF Velvet Dog Bed now for almost a month, and so far it is wonderful! We purchased this bed for our 12 year old French Bulldog. He has always been a "shredder" but until about a year ago he only shredded items we allowed. He just seemed to know it was okay to shred up the stuffed animals we gave him or the cardboard boxes. Then on his own he decided his dog bed was fair game. He needs a really good bed because he is getting older, but when we purchased them he shredded them.

Your product has been the perfect solution. He has always liked a softer surface with the bolster, and this bed has both.

Thank you for addressing the needs of dog owners like me. I just wish I had found you a year ago!

We originally purchased one of your TUFF crate beds for our young 35b Labradoodle who shredded everything! It works well when we travel but was noisy at night in our bedroom so we were delighted to see the addition of the velvet bed. It's perfect, our dog loves it and so do we, no more crinkly sounds when she turns around! She occasionally goes digging in it but it doesn't harm it. Very happy with the bed. Will likely purchase another one so we don't have to move it around.

My bed is doing great so far. My pup is not that big - 25 lbs. but she has anxiety disorders and has destroyed four crates and two beds. This one is working wonderfully so far. If it survives Abby who now has a crate made of 12 gauge steel bars, you know it is tough.

Our 90lb lab has chewed through quite a few beds so we wanted to put the TUFF bed to the test. So far so good! You definitely get what you pay for...this bed is made really well, very durable and looks nice. The nesting bed is a little noisy when our lab changes positions through the night but overall I would highly recommend it!

I have a 7 month old Boxer that is 77lbs and nothing is safe around him. The last bed I bought was described by the store manager as 'durable for chewers'...It lasted less than 15 minutes and I spent $100 on it. So far so good with this one! For some reason Howie has no interest in trying to shred it (at this time). The stitching is great and it is super fluffy and comfy (tried it myself and I could have slept like an exhausted puppy on it).

We have two dogs and both of them like the other bed. So far no has been willing to sleep in it all night. In fact they only spend a short time in the bed. We'll keep trying until one of them breaks down and sleeps in it.

Luxurious Quality. No Compromises.

It's finally here! The dog bed that combines all soft quality of LUX Series dog beds with the toughness and durability of our TUFF Series dog beds.

This bed is covered by the 90 Day Chew Proof Guarantee against any dog-inflicted damage. The bed is also one of the most comfortable surfaces your dog will ever sleep on.

“How did you guys come up with this perfect dog bed?”

We're glad you asked! The idea for this bed came years after we had designed the first TUFF Dog Beds. A few customers mentioned that the TUFF beds were noisy, which kept them up at night when their dogs would rustle the bed. Later we designed the LUX Series Dog Beds, which were oh so comfortable and completely silent. Unfortunately the LUX beds aren't chew proof!

For several years there was no in-between zone of both luxury and intense durability. One day our owner, Sean, decided to experiment with new materials. He took the Faux (fake) fur of the LUX beds and bonded it directly to the TUFF material. This created a hybrid material that was soft, silent, and extremely durable. We like to call it TUFF Velvet™.

This bed features two separate materials to make up its unique look. The TUFF Velvet makes up the sleeping surface of the bed, offering a quiet and soft lounge for your dog. The base features our proprietary Ripstop Ballistic TUFF Bed material, with an elegant lattice print design. Ripstop Ballistic material has proven to stop most chewing dogs from shredding dog beds, and has served our customers faithfully for many years. Unlike our other TUFF Velvet beds, the bolster bed features two zippers: one along the back of the bolster and one along the underside of the mattress.

The Microfiber Synthetic Fur on the TUFF Velvet makes the sleeping surface cozy for your dog, and quiet as well. Dogs who are easily spooked by sudden crinkle noises can fall into this bed and completely relax.

This is the most advanced dog bed we've ever created, and we think your dogs will absolutely love it!

Chew Proof Rating

Light Chewers & Scratchers

Built K9 Tough, resisting many chewing dogs, good for almost any dog. Backed by our 90 Day Chew Proof Guarantee, these are the bed covers our business was built on. If our proprietary TUFF flex Ballistic material wasn’t tough enough, we've upgraded it with Rip-Stop technology!

These bolstered beds feature two zippers on the back of the bed, concealed by pocket flaps.

If you have a persistent chewer this bed is not right for your dog. While it utilizes our super tough Ballistic RipStop material, the high bolstered edges provide an easy target for dogs who like to chew. These covers are water resistant, odor resistant, hair resistant, and machine washable. These are some of the most practical and long lasting beds available anywhere.
Size Guide
We recommend measuring your dog and comparing it to the dimensions of our beds to ensure the perfect size; every dog is unique. Measure your dog with a tape measure from the tip of their nose to the base of their tail. This is the minimum length you should consider for your pup's bed.

ripstop tuff cover for dog beds

RipStop Ballistic Material™

The chew-proof ballistic material with rip-stop tech avoids tears, and prevents growth if they start. It is just one more detail that makes these beds tough as nails (and tougher than teeth!)

double stitched seam dog bed

Reinforced Seams

We're proud to say our interior seams are double stitched and serged. This prevents snags, fraying, and damage from chewing.

Additionally, we include a layer of material at the bed's corners. Corners are the first things to go when a dog decides to start chewing. By reinforcing this weak point, we greatly increase the life of the bed.

double stitched seam dog bed

Reduced Seam Construction

Right after corners, seams are the weak spots which dogs exploit most frequently in beds. By reducing the number of seams on a bed fewer temptations present themselves, and therefore reduce the risk of demolition!

water resistant dog bed

Repels Dirt, Hair, and Moisture

Tightly woven synthetic fibers make this bed chew proof, and also resistant to a wide array of other damaging forces. Water, dirt, hair, and muck simply don't cling to the bed and can be easily wiped away; after wiping with a damp cloth the bed often looks as good as new!

machine washable dog beds

Machine Washable

Accidents happen, it's a fact of life; Murphey's law if you will. Having a machine washable dog bed helps clean up those accidents quickly and easily. For those messes that do not wipe away, let the machine washer do the work.

We recommend washing with cold water on a gentle cycle, and then air drying. The heat and friction of a machine dryer could shorten the lifespan of the bed, and we want our products to last as long as possible!

odor resistant dog bed

Synthetic Fibers Resist Odors

The extremely dense synthetic fiber weave of our Ballistic Material not only stops moisture, but also odors! Dirt, grime, and even mold spores have a tough time sticking to the bed cover, and when these elements can't stick around neither can the smell.

odor resistant dog bed

Hypoallergenic Material

Dust mites cause a large number of allergic reactions for dogs. Mold and mildew spores can also trigger allergic reactions. The sythetic fibers used in this cover prohibit dust mite invasions, and make life difficult for mold spores as well. These allergens require organic fibers to build their homes, and this cover uses a 100% synthetic fiber construction. Dust mites beware!

nesting mattress dog bed

"Breathing" Hydrofuge Mattress

After years of research and design, we've created a mattress that compliments the TUFF Cover™. "Breathing" mattresses means the natural act rest and activity circulates air through the bed, keeping it fresh for years to come.

This is made posible by a mattress cover material woven with small gaps in a durable fashion. The gaps allow air and moisture to easily pass through. The mattress therefore resists mildew and other elements which can create odors.

Channels Keep Mattress from Clumping

When most dogs bed down after a long day of exploring or playing, they "nest". This behavior is when dog prepares it's bed by pushing with its paws to fluff the sleeping surface, often going in circles until satisfied.

Some beds can be fluffed to death! Not our Nesting Mattress, though. Channeled fills keep the stuffing where it is supposed to be; your dog gets a great nights sleep and does not end up on the floor after accidentally pushing all the stuffing to one side. Our beds keep their shape incredibly well!

machine washable dog bed mattress

Machine Washable Mattress

To wash the mattress, simply remove it from the cover and place it in a machine washer on a gentle setting with cool water. Afterwards allow it to air dry, hydrofuge technology helps the bed dry quicker than you might expect!

Indoor or Outdoor Use

All the features listed above: breathing mattress cover, synthetic high-loft polyester fibers, and channeled fills, make this mattress adaptable to just about any environment. Indoors the bed lasts long and keeps your dog comfortable. Outside it resists the elements of nature and stays fresh much longer than other beds.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Ballistic Fabric?

Ballistic Fabric is a thick, tough, synthetic material used for a variety of applications. Ballistic fabric was originally developed by the DuPont corporation as a material for flak jackets to be worn by World War II airmen. The term ballistic fabric takes its name from the fact that it was intended to protect its wearers from flying debris and fragmentation caused by bullet or artillery shell impacts.

What is "Hydro-fuge" Technology?

Our Polyester filled mattresses come with our ventilated Hydro-Fuge mattresses inside for good air permeability and heat dissipation. Hydo-fuge technology means that they have good water permeability (water passes right through them). They are also channeled to prevent clumping, and filled with our eco-friendly recycled fiber.

Does this bed have zippers?

This Bolstered TUFF Bed has two zippers. The first is the opening for the nesting or orthopedic mattress, which runs around the back bottom edge of the bed. The second zipper is concealed beneath a flap of Ripstop material and gives access to the bolster pillow opening which runs the full length of the bolster pillow.

What makes your ballistic fabric superior to other bed materials?

Canvas and fabric beds are not chew proof by any means. You have to remember, dogs have been known to chew through materials that you'd never even imagine a dog could chew through. Our military-grade ballistic material is used specifically for it's durability and toughness, which makes for a longer-lasting, chew proof product that outlasts other beds made from inferior materials. Most companies take an off the shelf fabric, one made for furniture or luggage, and use it on a dog bed. We've designed our own fabric built around the function of a dog bed. We've recently upgraded our ballistic material to be Ripstop, which means its now even better at withstanding moderate chewing and scratching. Our fabric is waterproof, so it can withstand rain, outdoor conditions with its UV protection, and pets which may be incontinent. There is nothing on the market that is built better. This is the best option for an all around durable bed. We have paid extreme attention to all the details.

Are your beds really "chew proof"?

To be fair, there's really nothing short of hard metal that is absolutely "chew proof" - dogs have been known to chew through kevlar, wood, bricks, chain link fences and light metals just to name a few! If a dog has the ability and wants to bad enough, they can chew through most materials. However, we advertise our beds as "chew proof", and we stand behind our beds as the most chew proof products available. Ultimately, what makes our beds "chew proof" is not only the materials that we use, but also our 90 Day Chew Proof Warranty!

My dog is a heavy chewer, which bed do you recommend?

The Cujo Cot should be the go to bed for all medium or heavy chewers. With our "No Chew" design, hidden fabric edges, and durable corner covers, and aluminum frame, there is nowhere for dogs to get ahold of the fabric on the bed. Once your dog is conditioned not to chew a TUFF bed or TUFF Bed Crate Pad can be added for extra comfort.

What if my dog does manage to chew up this bed?

We have a 90 Day Chew Proof Guarantee on all Original, Round, Orthopedic, Mini TUFF Beds and TUFF Pads. If your dog does manage to chew through one of the TUFF Beds within the guarantee period, we'll replace the cover, free of charge. If your dog manages through our TUFF Pads or Mini TUFF Beds, we'll send out a free replacement. We're that confident!

Aren't all dog beds the same? What makes yours so different?

Our beds are actually built to inhibit the dog's ability to chew them. For starters, the covers of our beds are made out of military grade 1680 denier ballistic nylon, the same material worn as body armor by US combat forces! Unlike other beds, our ballistic nylon is far more chew resistant than cloth or other cheap fabrics that can be ripped apart at the seams. We take extra pains to engineer our beds with concealed Velcro closures on the bottom of the beds to minimize the dog's temptation and ability to chew in this area. Rounded corners and solid, well-sewn seams also greatly reduce the possibility of the dog grabbing hold of a weak seam.

What about cleaning the bed?

Our beds are super-easy to clean! First separate the cover and the fill and place in the washing machine separately. Close the Velcro on the cover completely before washing. Make sure to wash on delicate and cold. Air dry or line dry are the best way to dry the bed. Heat drying is not recommended. Please note vomit and urine have corrosive properties which can penetrate through the water resistant cover damaging the inner fill. Clean all urine and vomit immediately with a dry towel. Remove the inner fill and wash the bed cover using the instructions mentioned above. Customers in the past have told us that a deodorizer (ex. Febreeze) can take away the urine or vomit smell.

Is there any kind of assembly required for the TUFF beds?

Our TUFF beds require minimal assembly. Simply place the cover over the fill and close the Velcro. If you are having trouble placing the cover over the fill, try placing the cover on the floor (Velcro side up). Fold the fill and insert one side into one part of the Velcro. With one side in, unfold the fill while inserting the remaining portion into the second half of the cover. Close the Velcro and you're done!

Our Guarantee for the Original TUFF Bed

If your dog chews through the cover, it is covered under our warranty. We will send out, free of charge, one replacement bed cover (not including bed fill). This one-time warranty is good for up to 90 days from the day that K9 Ballistics shipped out your purchase.

If you notice any damage of our product resulting from chewing or scratching, we recommend immediately removing the bed from your dog's access. Some dogs like to eat their bedding, so for your animals' health we recommend waiting to reintroduce the bed when the replacement cover arrives and/or when the dog grows out of the chewing phase.

How to Process a warranty Claim

What we need to process a warranty is:
1. An email sent by the person who placed the order (usually you) with your name and address
2. A photo of the damage (you can also include a photo of the culprit if you like). You do not need to send us your bed or cover.

Send email with pictures to [email protected]. It usually takes us five to seven business days to get back to you.

Warranty can be enacted just once. If you do not wish to enact your warranty, we can refund you 50% of the cost of the item provided that a picture of the damage is sent to us.
