Giving Back: Dogs of Rwanda

We get requests for so many things on a daily basis. While some are requests for discounts and free products, others are requests for help and/or donations. Recently, we were contacted via email by someone looking for some beds for some very special dogs doing amazing work on the other side of the world. Below is an excerpt from that email.

“A little over a year ago, I had the pleasure of traveling to Rwanda to see the mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, as well as the beautiful wildlife (lions, zebra, giraffe, elephants, antelope, etc) of Akagera National Park. While at Akagera, I was able to visit with the park rangers who run the Canine Anti-Poaching Unit who protect the wildlife from poachers with the help of trained dogs. They explained that without the dogs, they have a very small chance of being effective, but with the dogs, they have almost eliminated poaching. The sad part was the floors of the dog kennels are concrete and their beds are just raised wooden platforms (see photos). We were planning on sending similar beds, which Bubba’s Beds have been using for shelters to the Akagera dogs, but I thought I would look for what else may be available, so I started searching on Google, which is how I found your company. I like that your beds are a similar design to your competitors beds BUT yours arrive pre-assembled. From my volunteer days at Bubba’s Beds, which included assembling 1,000 beds (with the help of others, of course), I know the other beds are take quite a bit of work and numerous tools to assemble. 

I would like discuss the option of shipping 15 of your beds to Akagera National Park. I understand that you are not a non-profit, so be assured that we will be buying the beds from you, although we would like to ask for a special non-profit price  on the beds.  

Is this something you are interested in discussing? Please let me know as soon as possible so we can go over costs, shipping, etc.”

Needless to say, we jumped at the opportunity to help make these dogs more comfortable after a hard days work. We immediately responded back, that not only would we like to help, we'd like to send all the beds they'd need, free of charge. To top it off, we sent these hard working pups our most durable line of armored beds.
