Product Care Instructions

Following our product care instructions will help ensure you gear has a  long life

Fabric Washing

Washing instructions are printed on a tag on all our products. Following our washing instructions will help make sure that your K9 gear has a long life. In general, washing in cold or warm water with mild laundry soap (non-toxic, biodegradable types preferred) and tumble drying on the lowest heat or air drying when possible are the best ways to clean K9 Ballistics® products.

Mattress Cleaning

Orthopedic foam mattresses cannot be washed but can be deodorized with baking soda. Beds without removable covers, such as the Tough Crate Pad, Deep Dens, and Mini Tough Beds, can be machine-washed whole. Please note that large and extra-large beds are not recommended in a household dryer but can be hosed off or washed in a commercial/industrial washer.

Wash Less

Wash your beds, covers, and other products only when it’s absolutely necessary, you’ll conserve water, minimize wear and tear on your stuff in the process. Consider using a rag or sponge to spot clean rather than putting it through a machine cycle.

Replenishing Water-Repellency (DWR)

Just like raincoats, our fabrics have a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish keeps moisture from saturating the outer fabric of your product. If water no longer beads up on your product, you can put on another coat of DWR finish. Our favorites are Granger's® products, though there are many good products on the market.

Pro Tip from Search Dog Foundation

Search Dog Foundation loves to use and abuse our Chew Proof Armored™ beds and crate pad with their 160+ dogs in training. The team has shared their cleaning method to combat the worst of accidents or dirt:

"We wash the beds in the kennel weekly.  As you know from our facility, the dogs get dirty.  😊  Lots of dirt everywhere!  We sometimes also have beds that are urinated on, and this works like a charm to remove the urine smell.

  1. Pressure wash the beds, top to bottom, removing as much residual dirt (or urine) as possible, until water runs clear.
  2. Light spray of Dawn Powerwash to the surface of the bed.  (a little goes a LONG way)
  3. Using a soft bristled brush, lightly scrub any stains with the soap.
  4. Pressure wash the bed again, until the water runs clear.
  5. Air dry in the sun."
