Elevated, cot-style dog beds are both a popular training tool and an excellent way for dogs to stay cool during warm summer months. They are often used in training to teach a dog the “place” command, which in turn creates an important foundation off which additional training will build. The sturdy metal frame and tight weave of the bed sling also ensures that this kind of bed will hold up against the destructive habits of young dogs still learning the ropes. The raised nature of these beds allows fresh air to circulate continuously under your dog, and since there’s no padding (for most models), there’s nowhere for body heat to build up.

Chew Proof Armored Mesh Elevated Bed

Designed to maximize the cooling potential of elevated beds, this armored bed utilizes a sling made from heavy duty mesh. It has a tight, open weave that allows air and water to pass through, making this ideal for use outdoors, especially in wetter environments. The elevated nature of the bed keeps fresh air circulating close to your dog’s body to wick away heat, while the mesh conforms to your dog’s body for support. Since the mesh has a more open weave and no ripstop qualities, this bed is not recommended for dogs prone to digging or scratching. 

Chew Proof Armored Ripstop Elevated Bed

Our original cooling bed, which balances cooling power with durability. The bed sling is made from our signature ripstop ballistic fabric, providing orthopedic-style support by conforming to the shape of your dog’s body. The ripstop ballistic material is durable against digging and scratching, and since it lies completely flat inside the frame it’s impossible for a dog to get between their teeth. It’s more durable against scratching and digging than the mesh bed, and while it doesn’t have quite the same level of airflow, it still allows fresh air to circulate beneath the sling and steadily wick away body heat. 

Chew Proof Armored Vinyl Elevated Bed

The Chew Proof Armored Vinyl Elevated bed is designed to maximize durability, and it’s the closest thing to indestructible that you’ll find on the market. The double-coated vinyl sling is exceptionally resistant to both penetrating (chewing) and abrasive (digging) damage, and it’s also the only material we’ve got that’s fully waterproof. It doesn’t breathe the same way mesh or ripstop fabrics do, but since it doesn’t have any padding, it still runs cooler than a traditional bed. If using this bed outdoors, avoid leaving it under full sun, as the vinyl can get hot. 

Chew Proof Armored Padded Dog Crate Bed

This armored bed is the only one in our line up to feature padding, so it isn’t considered a cooling bed at all. However, it does come with legs and can be elevated in order to use it as a bed for training place, or just to give bigger, heavier dogs more comfort and support. This is a popular option for use indoors and as a crate bed.
