This is not a chew proof item. The ripstop ballistic liner is durable and will hold up to wear and tear, but it is not as strong as our Tough covers and is not scratch- or chew-resistant without one.

This listing is for a mattress only, and will arrive as a single item that has been compressed and rolled for shipping. It must be unrolled and allowed to expand upon arrival before it can be covered and used. Orthopedic mattresses can take up to five days to expand to the fullest, but will typically expand enough to be covered and used within a couple hours of being opened.

The mattress liner is made from 600D ripstop ballistic polyester fabric, including the yellow breathable bottom. There is a PU waterproof backing applied to the inner surface of the gray top and sides of the liner. The mattress is made from a solid sheet of CertiPUR-US certified polyurethane foam that contains no glues or adhesives

Our ballistic liners have a waterproof PU backing applied to the inner surface of the gray material (the yellow side does not have this, so that the mattress can breathe). The backing will help keep water from soaking into the foam, but seams can be a point of entry for fluid. For that reason, our liners are considered water-resistant, not 100% waterproof. Clean up spills as quickly as possible to reduce the chance of leakage into the bed, and avoid submerging the bed or allowing it to sit in puddled water.

Please note that water-resistance refers to regular water, as in moisture from weather, sprinklers, or water bowl spills. Bodily fluids like urine and vomit are more caustic and can seep past the PU backing if not wiped up quickly. Frequent exposure to urine or vomit can damage the protective coating, making the liner more vulnerable to fluids in the future.

The liner can be unzipped and removed from the bed for machine washing. Wash in cold water on a delicate cycle and then air dry or tumble dry with low heat until fully dried.

Do not attempt to machine wash the foam. If the foam is dirty, spot clean as best as possible but avoid getting the foam wet, as it will not air dry easily. Do not cover damp foam. Foam can be deodorized by generously sprinkling baking soda over both and allowing it to air out in a dry, ventilated space.

If you have a Tough Ripstop™ Rectangle Pillow or Rectangle Bolster Pillow Dog Bed, absolutely! The sizing for the rectangle mattress is the same between the pillow and orthopedic versions, so it's easy to swap one out for the other.

Please note this mattress cannot be used with Tough Ripstop™ Orthopedic Dog Crate Bed Covers, since those covers have very different dimensions.

For best results, measure the dimensions of your current bed and select the mattress size option that matches most closely. If you no longer have the mattress, lay the cover out flat on the floor, smooth out any wrinkles, and measure from corner to corner to get the best dimensions.
